Compiling our research on decay, microbial ecology, and machine learning, we published a lexicon of shared language between art, science, and technology. This lexicon was distributed as an educational pamphlet and takeaway gift for attendees at NEW INC’s Radical Evolution artist showcase.
The lexicon was printed on plantable seed paper (wildflower or poppy seeds) and scented with geosmin, a damp-earth fragrance released by soil microbes. The pamphlet was accompanied by a small sculpture in the form of a leaky-puddle bookmark. The pamphlet was designed to decompose and grow into flower sprouts, once the reader was finished reading.
Development of shared language between the arts and sciences is part of our own ongoing artist practice, as well as our teaching and curriculum development.
